The words that come to mind to describe the journey between mentor and mentee are immense joy. Immense joy at helping and supporting new image consultants as they move forward with their companies.
This is my third year as a mentor, and even though the mentor is a guide, I have gained a lot from this mentoring scheme. Four things stand out for me with this experience: satisfaction, education, friendship, and inspiration.
Satisfaction at supporting and encouraging new consultants as they plan and make goals to expand their business. I know what it’s like to be working on your own, and I have been there and experienced the same ups and downs. It’s hard to describe this emotion of satisfaction, but it gives me great pleasure.
As an image consultant of over twenty years and a fellow FIPI, I feel eminently qualified to pass on my expertise both professionally and as a qualified lifestyle coach.
Education, as along the way, I have learnt so many things from my mentees. I feel privileged to have been able to share their stories and learn a totally new way of marketing that didn’t exist when I trained over twenty years ago. So much has changed in the way we interact on social media that it has been a joy to see the ease with which they branch out to the world this way with blogging, Facebook, Facebook live videos, YouTube and LinkedIn.
Friendship has come from the intimacy of the mentoring process. I have been lucky to have been able to engage personally with my mentees and feel honoured that they trust me enough to share their ideas and goals as I watch them grow.
Inspiration. This comes from hearing how much they have achieved and delight at the different ways they choose to go out to the public with new ideas and collaborations. Their successes with clients, presentations, exhibitions, Facebook and YouTube videos are a joy to share. The confidence they show in pushing boundaries and finding new ways of reaching more clients never fails to inspire me. Also, this year has been dramatically different and has seen yet another change in consultant’s practices, with online consultations via Zoom becoming the new normal.
In conclusion, mentoring is a two-way street in that I get as much out of the process as the mentees do. By sharing information, they learn, and I do too. It is exciting to watch consultants grow and succeed and feel that I have helped in some small way to their success. It truly is an immensely joyful experience.
I recommend this programme to anyone who wants to step out of their comfort zone and take their business to another level.
